[edit | edit source]Sample
[edit | edit source]nth-level enchantment
Casting Time: duration
Range: range
Components: when applicable
Duration: duration
Description.
At Higher Levels. Lorem ipsum.
Cantrips
[edit | edit source]Fountain
[edit | edit source]Conjuration cantrip
Casting Time: Concentration, until dispelled
Range: Self
Components: A closable cup or container capable of holding liquid less than or equal to a gallon in volume
Duration: Until dispelled
You concentrate on the cup or container, causing it to slowly fill with purified drinking water until full. You can repeat this cantrip when the container is empty, and only one container with the water from which you are the source can exist on the same plane of existence at a time. The temperature of the water is at your discretion, which could range from barely above freezing to at a rolling boil.
6th-Level
[edit | edit source]Enable NoClip
[edit | edit source]6th-level transmutation
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Touch
Components: V, S
Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes
You or a willing creature you touch loses tangibility from the physical aspects of reality for the duration, entering the state of NoClip.
While in NoClip, your character and everything they are wearing and carrying becomes transparent. You gain immunities to Force and Thunder damage as well as a flying speed of 30 ft., unless your flying speed is already greater than or equal to 30. If you phase through a solid object, you are able to see through it along with any other solid objects that the object you are currently inside of is touching.
If you lose NoClip while inside of a solid, hard object, such as the ground or a cave wall, you immediately receive 75 bludgeoning damage and are trapped until the object containing you is destroyed (which may occur as soon as you shift out of NoClip) or you enter NoClip again. If this damage drops you to 0 hit points, you die.
Jinx
[edit | edit source]6th-level abjuration
Casting Time: 1 reaction
Range: 60 feet
Components: V
Duration: Until dispelled
You attempt to interrupt a creature in the process of casting a spell. If the creature is casting a spell of 6th-level or lower, its spell fails and has no effect. If it is casting a spell of 7th-level or higher, make an ability check using your spellcasting ability. The DC equals 10 + the spell’s level. On a success, the creature’s spell fails and has no effect, and they become Jinxed.
A Jinxed creature cannot speak, becomes vulnerable to bludgeoning damage, and cannot cast the spell that was cancelled by Jinx until they complete a long rest. The effect ends when another creature uses their action to say the affected creature’s name three times or the affected creature succeeds on a Charisma saving throw.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 7th-level or higher, the interrupted spell has no effect if its level is less than or equal to the level of the spell slot you used.
8th-Level
[edit | edit source]Vinnie’s Power Word: Confusion
[edit | edit source]8th-level enchantment
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Self
Components: V
Duration: Instantaneous
You utter a word of power that causes all creatures of your choice who heard it to immediately forget where they are and what they were doing for 1d6 days. Any creatures whose Intelligence score is 4 or less are unaffected.
If the DM decides an affected creature has been involved in their current scenario for long enough and could reasonably remember their purpose, the creature can make a Wisdom saving throw, ending the effect on itself on a success.
9th-Level
[edit | edit source]Armor of Force
[edit | edit source]9th-level enchantment
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Touch
Components: V, S
Duration: 10 minutes
You cast an enchantment on the armor of yourself or one willing creature. For the duration of the spell, that creature becomes resistant to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from magical weapons.
Cloud of Stupid Gas
[edit | edit source]9th-level evocation
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Any point you can see within 60 feet
Components: S
Duration: Concentration, up to 30 minutes
You concentrate on a point you can see out to 60 feet and spawn a cloud of colorless, odorless, invisible gas. All creatures that enter the range or are inside of it already with an Intelligence ability score of 2 or higher to must make a Wisdom saving throw.
On a failure, the creature’s Intelligence and Wisdom ability scores are reduced to 1. An affected creature cannot cast spells, activate magic items, understand language, or communicate in any intelligible way. The creature can, however, identify its friends, follow them, and even protect them.
At the end of every 30 days, the creature can repeat its saving throw against this spell. If it succeeds on its saving throw, the spell ends. The spell can also be ended by Greater Restoration, Heal, or Wish.
The Floor is Lava
[edit | edit source]9th-level transmutation
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 400 feet
Components: V, S
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
For the duration, all ground flooring in a circular area centered around a point you can see within 400 feet of you is instantaneously transformed into lava. Any creature touching the ground must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw, taking 10d10 Fire damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success. If a creature ends their turn in the lava, they become submerged in it and must repeat the saving throw, taking 18d10 Fire damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success.
The lava is approximately six feet deep and cannot spread or leave the area it is affecting. Structures and other objects on the ground may ignite and catch fire or be totally destroyed, unless they are immune to Fire damage.
Hyper Beam
[edit | edit source]9th-level evocation
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 60 feet
Components: V, S
Duration: Instantaneous
An intense, bright red laser beam of white-hot energy springs into existence from your spellcasting focus onto a single target of your choice that you can see. Make a ranged spell attack against a single creature you can see within range. On a hit, that creature takes 15d12+40 Radiant damage.
After casting this spell, you must recharge, and become paralyzed until the duration of the next round has passed. Until you are finished recharging, you may not use any movement options, take any actions, bonus actions, or reactions.
If you reduce a target to 0 hit points when casting this spell, you do not have to recharge.
Power Word: Fall
[edit | edit source]9th-level enchantment
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 120 feet
Components: V
Duration: Instantaneous
You utter a word of power that chills the air in the range. All creatures of your choice with 150 hit points or fewer that you can see are instantly dropped to 1 hit point. Only a Wish spell can make a creature immune to this effect.
Star of Invincibility
[edit | edit source]9th-level abjuration
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Touch
Components: S
Duration: Concentration, up to 30 seconds
You or one willing creature you touch begins to brightly flash with all colors. Until the spell ends, you become immune to all forms of damage, gain an advantage on all Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution checks and saving throws, and your base walking speed is tripled.
Any hostile creature that touches you, is touched by you, moves into you, or ends their turn touching you has to make a Constitution saving throw. On a failure, they take 45d6 Radiant damage, or half as much on a success.
10th-Level
[edit | edit source]10th-level and higher spells do exist in the official lore of D&D, but they only serve as narrative devices for the stories. The singular, and perhaps only 9th-level+ spell of mention in this homebrew is Aarau’s Destroy Universe. Even so, it is not a true 10th-level spell. No character or entity in the entire canon of this homebrew has ever cast this spell, nor do I ever intend to introduce it.
Digressing. The only reason it’s here is due to a long-running inside joke among my players about its’ absurdity. I was also not able to easily find it on the internet, so it’s right here for safekeeping. It’s ugly, it’s obtuse, it’s crude, it’s edgy… But what more can a good-ole’ fashioned D&D table ask for, right?
Aarau’s Destroy Universe
[edit | edit source]9th-level necromancy
Casting Time: 666 hours
Range: Unlimited
Components: V, S, M*
Duration: Instantaneous
Everything is destroyed, unless a Wish spell is cast to counter this spell within the casting time. The DM loses control of everything and you choose a new DM to start a new world.
You must all create new characters. This spell cannot be reversed.
Can add 666 hours of casting time and 666 gold pieces worth of glitter to cast as a 10th-level spell.
At Higher Levels. If you cast this as a 10th-level spell, then in the next campaign, you can instead sacrifice 666 spellcasters to become Asmodeus until killed in the 9th hell or gain this spell as a Cantrip.
