Amberwell

Amberwell is a moderately-sized city situated at just about the equator in the southernmost point of the Western Major Region, bordering the Gleaming Forest at the northernmost point of the West Feller Isles. They control a significant canal that provides passage to and from the Eastern Major Region.

Features

Marketplace and Trade. Amberwell is the trade hot spot of the western world. They primarily export coal and all manners of mid-climate fruits while using the revenue generated by their canal to supplement their income, which acts as a gateway to the Eastern Major Region, Straetos, and the Feller Isles. The wine the city produces is frequently the idol of desire for their goblin neighbors to the west. They also have a modest fishing industry that perpetually lives in the shadow of Balaris’s.

Population Size. Medium: They have a registered population of 160,000 people, though the downtown area sees far more than that each day due to the canal.

Population Density. Besides their downtown area, Amberwell is a sprawling area of agriculture. Aside from the trading sector, which is almost always busy, the city is not a fully-urban environment and enjoys lots of room due to the area they occupy.

Population Demographics. Amberwell is predominantly human but with significant elf, half-elf, tiefling, and halfling populations.

Government. Like their neighbor Aestros, Amberwell is protected by the Silver Cloak, a private militia company controlled by Magicorp, and pays annual dues via taxation in the city and through revenue generated by the canal. Magicorp has made numerous attempts to purchase the revenue rights of the canal from the city, though they have refused each time. Another particular interest in the city's politics revolves around the pirate presence in the canal.

Culture. Amberwell is world famous for their agriculture, specifically fruits, so motifs of different fruits are seen everywhere in the city's products, iconography, and insignia. Locals frequently report ghost sightings in the canal at night, especially those involving pirates and ghost ships.
